What is roof repair?
Roof repair is the process of repairing damage to a roof. Roof repair is typically the most cost-effective solution for fixing damaged roofs instead of replacement or tiling.
Benefits of Repairing Your Roof
• Roof repairs are usually more affordable than replacing tiles or re-roofing entirely.
• The quality of materials used in modern roof repairs has improved significantly over recent years. It is often not noticeable from ground level once completed by our highly skilled tradesmen, who have many years of experience working on all types of roofs!
When To Not Call For Repairs
If your roof has been severely damaged by a storm or fire, replacing the entire roof may be more cost-effective.
Types of Repair Work We Do
Water damage
Water damage repairs can include replacing broken tiles and fixing guttering issues that have caused water damage inside the house. This type of work is usually completed within two days and requires minimal disruption to home occupants. The majority of our customers are pleasantly surprised at how little mess these types of repairs make!
Fire damage
Fire damage repairs often require reflashing around chimneys and repairing gutters, downpipes and drains, which will be affected after such an intense heat source passes over them (such as ash from nearby fires). As with all repairs, this work is carried out in such a way as to cause the minimum possible disruption to home occupants, and we aim for completion within two days.
Wind damage
Wind damaged roofs can range from minor repairs such as broken tiles or re-pointing of chimneys which will take less than a day (and no scaffolding) right through to complete replacement of roof coverings and sometimes even associated guttering and downpipes. The type of repair required depends on how wind sheared off your roof covering!
Again, our customers are generally pleasantly surprised at how little mess these types of repairs make inside their homes. We do our best to keep further disruptions caused by working at height (for example, with ladders/scaffolds) to an absolute minimum.
Snowfall damage
Snow is heavy and can weigh a roof covering down, causing damage to the underlying structure. Therefore, we always recommend that roof repairs be carried out after winter to avoid any further damage.
Blocked gutters and downpipes
If your guttering is blocked, you may notice that water pools around the base of the walls leading to dampness in kitchens or bathrooms. We can quickly repair this type of damage with no disruption inside your home by our specialist teams, who will clear out all blockages (with ease) using high pressure jetting equipment before reinstating your guttering system back to total working order!
Again, this type of repair takes less than half a day at most. We also carry out repairs on individual sections of damaged downpipe if required – but these types of jobs are rare as they usually only occur when another problem has led us here (such as water penetration through tiles or damage to the roof itself).
Gutter replacement/repair
Your roof’s gutters play a vital role in protecting your home from costly water damage. As such, preparing, installing, cleaning, or new gutters will help to prevent any future damage.
Roof tiling installation
Whether you need a complete roof renovation, want your old tiles replaced with something more aesthetically pleasing (i.e. clay rather than concrete), this is the service for you! If your flat roofs need repair then we can also offer that too – but only if it’s required as part of our other services mentioned above at which point it would be included free-of-charge within the cost of repairing whatever caused us to visit in the first place (otherwise additional charges may apply).
Chimney repointing
The mortar between brickwork joints slowly dissolves over time due to weather, pollution and general wear-and-tear. Once the mortar is gone, water can penetrate your property, resulting in damp patches appearing on walls or ceilings inside.
Missing slates or tiles
As you can imagine, missing tiles or slates on your roof are not only an eyesore, but they also create further problems for you down the line. So, having a professional roofing contractor come and fix your missing slates or tiles is a much better option than leaving the damage unrepaired.
Damaged slates or tiles
When stones get damaged – whether it’s from heavy snowfall, high winds during storms or general wear-and-tear over time – we always recommend replacing them due to safety concerns for anyone walking along the top of your home.
Corroded metal roofing sheets (steel, aluminium or zinc)
These types of repairs aren’t typically a DIY job, but they’re a great way to improve the look of your home and extend its life.
Fascias and soffits replacement
Firstly, let’s talk about what fascias are. The fascia is the ‘face’ of your roof, which covers the main beams on top of it where guttering systems can be attached. Many homeowners may not even notice if their fascias start rusting or wearing out because it usually happens very slowly over time
Valley repairs/replacement
Replacing this part of your roofing system keeps water from sitting in one place too long and creating leaks that could lead to expensive damage inside your house.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long will my roof repair take to complete?
It depends on the type of repair and how many layers need to be repaired! We perform most repairs in a day, leaving you with peace of mind.
Can my roof be repaired, or does it need to be replaced?
You might not think your flat roof needs replacing. Still, jobs can often appear more costly than they are once you consider that someone will also have to remove all of the existing tiles and lay new ones afterwards (even if only on the part of your flat rooftop). This is especially true when removing old asphalt. Replacing sections rather than repairing them is usually much cheaper, too, so this should always be an option considered before undertaking complete replacement works where necessary.
Can I repair my roof?
Yes, but there are risks involved with doing so yourself! Contractors who work from home must follow strict safety guidelines when working on the roofs of houses they live in themselves. This type of project could potentially cause severe damage if it’s not completed correctly. We recommend that homeowners leave all significant repairs up to us unless they’re highly confident in what they’re doing.
What will it cost to repair my roof?
It is not always possible to say how much a roof repair job will cost until the professional has been out and had a look at your flat rooftop. Of course, you can get an idea of costs by looking around for quotes from other companies but bear in mind that these are more like “ballpark” figures rather than exact prices (although they may be ballpark accurate).
The best way to make sure you don’t pay over the odds for this type of work is to choose one company that offers free estimates first off then use them instead of shopping around on price alone.
How long will my roof last?
Several factors will determine how long your roof will last. These include the quality and type of materials used when installing, if your roof needed any repairs during installation or in the future due to weather damage, age of existing gutters, etc., among many other things.
What causes roofs to wear out?
A variety of different reasons can contribute to this, including sun exposure over time causing fade in colouration, poor ventilation leading to trapped moisture, which accelerates rusting/rotting issues with metal components such as vent pipes and skylight flashings (which sit on top), faulty flashing installations allowing water penetration at seams between walls /roofs /etc., or even just general wear over time.
